On 16 April 1746, the Battle of Culloden took place between the Jacobites and a British government force under the Duke of Cumberland

, after years of fighting for succession of the British throne.

The battle was fierce, bloody, and over in less than an hour, ending in defeat for Bonnie Prince Charlie and the Jacobites. It would be their last attempt to reinstate the Stuarts to the throne.
