, New York with The Allman Brothers Band, The Grateful Dead and The Band. Over 600,000 rock fans attended. Many historians claimed the event was the largest gathering of people in the history of the United States. 150,000 tickets were sold for $10 each, but for all the other people it was a free concert. The crowd was so huge that a large part of the audience was not able to see the stage.Acquired 18 Original News Photos from Watkins Glen Rock Concert July 1973 - concentrating more on the experience than the performers. Roughly 8 x 10 size - perhaps larger. It is interesting, these were found in a Tonawanda NY estate buried in a box. Of the 18 photos, three involved nudity. I mentioned this to a friend who attended and she told me she did not see any of that. Curious as why 1/6th of the archive involved it if it was not wide-spread. Hmmmm. Other photos included one of the medical tent and various crowd shots. Glad these were not disposed of by the family - great moment in rock history and towards the end of the hippie movement.
