Friday! Self Pleasure.
Masturbation has been around historically longer than we have had writing. It has been observed depicted in cave drawings/paintings and ancient Egypt had a whole mythos built around it.
The supreme god of the Egyptian pantheon, Atum, created the entire universe through the act of masturbation. As a sacrifice to the gods and to ensure an excellent harvest, the Egyptian Pharoah would ritually masturbate into the Nile.
The ancient Greeks put the first taboo on masturbation, but lets not forget they also thought when the Romans invited women to orgies that they were weird....orgies were for men only.
Speaking of Romans, one of the immortalized deceased of Pompeii, where Vesuvius erupted burying the city, is believed to be in the act of masturbation - though scholars still debate that issue...but the city was known for their numerous brothels and sexual lewdness - even to the Romans. Despite this frozen in time figure, the Romans took a more Greek approach and considered masturbation to be "something for the slaves to do".
African cultures from the Congo Basin (Aka and Ngandu) do not even have a word for masturbation and are confused as to the entire concept.
Many writers have debated the health, both physical and mental, of masturbation including the likes of Voltaire, Kant, and Rousseau. As late as 1994 Dr. Joycelyn Elders, the Surgeon General of the United States, mentioned that school curricula should state that masturbation was safe and healthy. She was forced to resign as opponents asserted that she was going to promote the teaching of how to masturbate.
As George Carlin once said, "If God had intended us to not masturbate, He would have made our arms shorter."
