Happy Mardi Gras from AQuA
47 years ago, the first Mardi Gras was held in Sydney as part of the International Day of Gay Solidarity. This street festival turned riot has become a defining moment in Australia’s history – energising the LGBTI movement and community to protest for change and celebrate its pride. The Archives holds a wealth of material documenting both the first Mardi Gras and those that have followed, right up to the present day.
