By all means, he was definitely the most notorious bandit that has bedeviled Nigeria.
He began his criminal operation in the Kuyanbana forest in Zamfara State attacking villages in the areas that share boundaries with Kaduna, Niger and even Kebbi States.
Dogo Gide has a notoriety for ruthlessness and vast connections with several bandits and terrorist organisations, especially ISWAP and Boko Haram.
He is notorious for kidnapping, cattle rustling, armed robbery and sexual violence.
Dogo Gide became known in 2018 when he killed his boss who he was second in command to, the equally notorious Buharin Daji. He also killed another notorious bandit leader named Damina in a violent clash.
Dogo Gide organized and led the abduction of 126 Students from Bethel Baptist Secondary School in Maraban Damishi, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State on July 5, 2021. Additionally, he was involved in the kidnapping of over 90 students and numerous staff members from the Federal Government College in Birnin Yauri, Kebbi State. The victims were finally released following the payment of a substantial ransom, amounting to several million of naira, by the parents of the abductees.
He was responsible for the shooting down of a Nigeria air force helicopter in Chukuba in Shiroro Local government area of Niger State.
Prior to that, there had been a violent encounter with the terrorists in which the Nigeria military lost 12 of it's men. While the military where trying to evacuate the dead and injured in the encounter at the location, he attacked the helicopter shooting it down, killing all the soldiers on board, setting the helicopter ablaze in a recorded video and claiming responsibility for the attack!
The Nigeria military eventually launched a serious manhunt for him dead or alive!
On March 12, 2024, he had a clash with members of the Nigeria military where he received gunshot injuries.
The operation was conducted by the joint task force of the Nigeria military Operation Hadarin Daji (OPHD) forces led by Major General Godwin Mutkut.
"Hadarin Daji" translates to English as "clear the bushes"
The encounter took place in the challenging landscape of Madada forest within the Maru local government area of Zamfara State.
After suffering serious injuries, Dogo Gide was said to have been covertly taken to a place in Mabera in Sokoto State to receive treatment where he eventually passed away.
Dogo Gide, a notorious fugitive sought for his series of heinous crimes in the area, was laid to rest in Dandalla Village in Zamfara State on March 24, 2024
The successful elimination of Dogo Gide represented a notable achievement for the Nigerian security forces, showcasing the collaborative endeavors of 1 Division and 8 Division of the Nigerian Army.b
